Fishermen is a term for people who acquit yourself daily to catch fish or further biota that liven up upon the bottom, column or surface of the water. The waters that become the place of excitement of these fishermen can be fresh, brackish or sea water. In developing countries such as in Southeast Asia or in Africa, there are still many fishermen who use simple equipment in fishing. Fishermen in developed countries usually use unbiased equipment and large vessels equipped in imitation of ahead of its time technology.

Eidman (1991) divides fishermen into two categories, namely cultivator fishermen and owner fishermen.
